Often, yes. Tacoma Development Services, Pierce County, Seattle, and King County each want a permit for side sewer, storm, and most work in the right-of-way or across a driveway. A private-yard electrical or water trench is sometimes lighter. We pull the permit for the city you are in and cover the fee up to $1,500.
We dig the trench. For side sewer and many drainage jobs we also set the pipe and backfill. Electrical and gas get trenched for the licensed electrician or gas fitter, then we backfill after inspection. Say which trade is on the job when you call.
The cut is only as wide as the line needs. Lawn gets put back. If we have to cross a driveway or sidewalk, we saw-cut, trench, and patch.
